“Are video games art?” They’re actually so not art that they’re negative art. If you play Diablo 3 for an hour and forty-two minutes you’ve no longer ever seen Casablanca. Every 100 levels you beat in Candy Crush deletes all your opinions about an exhibit in the Tate Modern.
I’m going to point out that you are fucking wrong. There are a lot of indie games I would consider art. What remains of Edith Finch is in my opinion a piece of art. If Found is a fantastic narrative game about primarily the experiences of a trans woman in Ireland in the 1990s.
AAA games are not art. But some indie games might be.
trees are very 🥺 because sometimes i’ll stand under the shade of a tree and look up at it and it’ll sway its branches about in the wind and i’m like oh my God i’m alive and YOU’RE alive. we are alive together and made up of the same starry stuff and standing right next to each other in this moment on this earth. do u feel it when i reach out and press my hand to your trunk? can you hear me? i think you’re so neat. and then the sunlight filters through its leaves just so and that lovely green color leaves me dazzled. it’s just very nice to be an alive thing next to a different sort of alive thing
something i wish i had realized earlier: you can write poems on the same subject more than once. you can write, paint, draw the same thing over and over if you want to. you can spend your whole life making art about oranges. i think i always felt this pressure to get it right the first time like i couldn’t go back and use that inspiration again. but you can. you can go back and revisit it. you can pick up the conversation again and again if you have more to say.
history repeats itself only because conditions don’t change drastically enough to halt the cycle from reoccurring and that’s why studying history gives you an intellectual leg up cause you can raise your hand and be like this happened already guys idk if you remember but this happened☝️we know the answer guys ☝️
and yknow what nobody fucking listens anyways. but at least you’ll know you tried
